Sunday 16 (since I didn't do a 13 on Thursday *s*)

16 THINGS ABOUT MY WEEK ...

1. My inability to say no to people smacked me upside the head when I committed to coordinating hair and make up for a play that the local theatre group is putting on in a month. I have no skills with hair or make up. My hair is wash and blow dry only … because my hair chick knows I’m a moron when it comes to styling. My make up consists of mascara and lip conditioner stuff … sometimes. Usually I forget the mascara part until I’m half way to work and it’s too late to worry about it. Oh. Dear. GOD! LOL

2. I’m starting to get used to the school I’m now working at. I moved from a middle school to a high school at the beginning of March. For 3 weeks I’ve been working 3 days in the special needs classroom and 2 days in the rest of the school where I’ve been working my ass off trying to keep ahead of the students in high school math. I haven’t done high school math in 20 years. I think I had some of them fooled into thinking I knew what I was doing *g*. We have a new student in the special needs classroom now though so that means more aide time. SO I’m going to be full time in that classroom now (yay!)

3. I’ve been reminded that high school students are BIGGER than middle school students and I must learn to dodge faster. I was smacked upside the side of my head for no apparent reason on Tuesday. (OUCH)

4. I now know I need to bring spare clothes/shoes to work with me. While doing one of the work experience jobs with some of the students my feet were SOAKED on Wednesday. Tons of snow on Monday and Tuesday made for tons of slush on Wednesday when the sun came out. I had meetings after work so couldn’t change my shoes/socks/pants until way late. I was very shivery.

5. I have noticed this week that I’m not tiring as quickly as I used to with the walking I’ve been doing  YAY!

6. I weighed myself and found that I’ve lost 10 pounds in the last six or so weeks  (YAY!!!)

7. I think I may have made some decisions about what I need to do for a second job … and I NEED a second job to make ends meet. I have been enjoying this last almost 2 months of only working 1 full time job. It’s been more than 4 years since I’ve only worked 1 full time job.

8. I won the chance to read Jaci Burton’s ARC for Wild, Wicked & Wanton and do a review on it! (YAY!!! Thanks Jaci  )

9. I have passed the $2,000 mark for my fundraising for my walk I’m doing in July  I had to raise at least that much to be able to even DO the walk.

10. I had the chance to test read for 2 authors this week! I will taunt about some specifics (which authors and which books) as soon as I’m allowed to (hehehe)

11. I read books by 3 new to me authors and 2 of them rocked the casbah. *s* The other one was good until the end and then it PISSED me off. Stupid endings make me grumpy!

12. I was able to spend time with all my nieces and my nephew this week.  The older 2 (niece and nephew) are brats and sassy. I will get them back when they least expect it (insert evil laugh). The younger 2 are cutie pies and adorable. I got some good snuggling time in with both of them. 

13. I was reminded again of my inability to say no to people when I said I would work a casino for a friend I worked with at the old school. She was having problems getting enough volunteers. When I said I would the weather was crappy. It was nice this weekend though so I really didn’t want to do it last night. It was a boring casino too. I sat around a lot.

14. There was a really hot security dude who was working at the casino though so at least I had eye candy *g*

15. I had time to read Jaci’s book last night while sitting from 5 pm to 2:30 am at the casino. (I’m a fast reader and the book was pretty damn awesome *s* Interesting to read in a public place though sometimes LOL. I’ll review in a couple of days)

16. I was reminded on Friday of how much of a klutz I am. I tripped while with some of my students and smashed my knee into the side walk. Embarassing yes? I'm such a dork. I got up and told myself to suck it up and kept going, limping a little for a block or so then putting it mostly out of my mind. When I was sitting at lunch though and rubbed my knee I knew something was whine worthy when I felt the knee of my jeans and it was stiff. Ick. Blood. My whole knee cap is now bruised and oozy. Nice huh?

Blindsided

Picture a lazy Saturday afternoon at home. You're hanging out with your six-year-old in his room while he quietly draws a boat on his MagnaDoodle. Maybe a bird is chirping outside the window. It's all very bondy and nice.

The boy stops drawing for a moment, looks right at you and says: "HERE'S THE IMPORTANT QUESTION: What part of the mommy does the baby come out of?"

I've been tagged

Anni tagged me with a meme asking me to post 10 weird things about me. I think she tagged me a week or so ago but I've been lazy *g* Sorry Anni!

This is going to be a difficult one for me. *g* I'm really not all that weird!

1. I don't like the way most polar fleece feels. It makes me shudder and my stomach turns.

2. I think feet are gross unless they're 7 years old or younger. Baby feet are cute. If someone is insane enough to like touching feet though and wants to massage mine I'm all about humoring them. I LOVE going to a reflexologist.

3. I haven’t read any of the Harry Potter books yet. I don't anticipate reading any in the near future. There are so many other books in my list of books to be read that are more appealing to me than those ones. I have seen the movies though.

4. I can't snap my fingers.

5. I can't stand the taste of coffee. I do like the smell though.

6. I break into a panicked sweat at the thought of getting a needle.

7. I'm not a huge holiday person but I LOVE Christmas music. (I actually have enjoyed the holidays a bit more the last few years now that there are little ones in the family again with my 2 nieces).

8. I am one of the laziest people I know when it comes to exercise but I've signed up to do the weekend to end breast cancer 60 km walk. WHAT. WAS. I. THINKING??? lol

9. I've never been able to watch a full show of survivor. It's boring and stupid. I did win $80 in a survivor pool though. We drew names and my chick won in the show.

10. I hate beer. (even though some would say that it's un-Canadian of me to hate beer, 'eh)

I have survived my first 2 days of highschool in 20 years ...

As of Thursday, I am working in a senior high school as an educational assistant.

DEAR GOD! When did kids start swearing so much in school??? I am having so many OMG I feel old moments. I find myself thinking ... we never did/said THAT when I was in school! LOL Then I go oh dear god I'm officially old now that I've had that thought LOL

I have homework this weekend LOL I have to figure out how to use those damn fancy calculators since the classes I'm helping in are almost all math (ironic that the students swear but I'm not allowed to LOL *shudders* Math makes me swear LOL)

For the next couple of weeks I'll be doing part time learning support and part time in the classroom with the students with severe special needs. Eventually I'll be full time learning support.

Books for Breast Cancer!

I was talking to Sasha White in e-mail last night. I told her about my decision to do this walk to end breast cancer. Her immediate response was to offer some autographed books (GYPSY HEART, BOUND, KINK, PURE SEX, THE COP, LUSH, And a CD with a PDF of all of her ebooks on it)up for a contest to raise money. I was stunned! And thrilled :) Sasha you rock! You can find all of Sasha's books at her website. If you love amazing HOT HOT stories you will LOVE Sasha's books. She's an author on my auto buy list! I have never been disappointed with any of her books I've read :)

Here's the deal. I've talked to the people at the local office for The Weekend to End Breast Cancer and they've give me the okay to do this.

It's official!

I registered last night!

On July 27-29, 2007 I'll be participating in a very special event called The Weekend to End Breast Cancer.

I'll walk 60 kilometres over the course of one weekend with thousands of other women and men. The net proceeds will support breast cancer research, treatment, and services through the Alberta Cancer Foundation.

I've agreed to raise at least $2,000, but I've set my personal goal at $3,000. So I need your help. Would you please consider making a donation? Use this link to go visit my site - and please take the time to support me. Please keep in mind how far I'm walking - and how hard I'll have to train.

According to the National Cancer Institute of Canada, approximately 20,500 Canadian women will be diagnosed with breast cancer this year, and about 5,400 will die from the disease. I could never throw away a book (unless it was in tatters, and even then I'd try to repair if I could). I'll give them to the library, hospital or a shelter if I don't intend to keep them, and a friend doesn't want them. My preference is to fall so in love with the story that I have to keep it though *s* T hat doesn't happen as often as I'd like unfortunately.

Read with dustjacket or remove it?
Mass market and trade paperbacks don't tend to come with dust jackets so this isn't really a delima LOL. If I do have a hard cover book I'll take the cover off while reading it then put it back on when it's on the shelf.

I love both of Jeff Lindsay's books and can't wait for the third *s* Darkly Dreaming Dexter and Dearly Devoted Dexter. The 'hero' of the book, or main character is a serial killer...with a conscience. He only kills the bad guys.

Changes ....

Well I knew it was coming. My live in job officially ends on Thursday Jan. 11th. I am, however, able to stay in the house for a few months so the whole homeless thing isn't happening right away (yay).

I've decided to take the rest of January after that to enjoy ONLY working 1 full time job (my other day job) before looking for either something to suppliment it or something entirely different. I'll also have to decide if I can afford to take the chance of applying for a mortgage and buying a house (I'd have to move to an even smaller town than the one I'm in right now to be able to afford something) or waste my money renting. (rents are almost equal to mortgages right now but there's the added expenses of taxes and higher utilities when you're buying).

Cross your fingers for me!

Thirteen Things about Erin - 13 things I would like to accomplish this year (or at least before I die) 1. Find a job that pays a living wage so I only have to work 40 (or so) hours a week. 2. Get healthier (not just lose weight) 3. Pay off credit cards (or at least keep them at a controlable level) 4. Take a vacation (even just a short one, and not necessarily anything expensive or elaborate. Just a break from work and stress) 5. Learn to cook better/healthier meals. 6. Get out more and enjoy life. 7. Figure out computer programs (word/office/excel/etc) 8. Read my TBR pile ... without it continuing to grow to HOLY CRAP levels of uncontrolability like it is now LOL 9. Laugh more - I'm sad way too often. 10. Find a decent place to live. (this one better actually happen SOON as I just lost one of my jobs ~ the live in one that provides a roof over my head lol) 11. Save some money. 12. Meet new people/make friendships. 13. Thirteen Steps to finding your GLAM 1. Drive to spa/hair stylist and get the full treatment 2. Go to chocolate store and buy something incredibly decadent 3. Buy a bottle of champagne/wine or other equally yum beverage that goes with chocolate. 4. Drive to that shoe store you never actually go into because everything is just too damn expensive and you couldn't afford anything anyways. 5. Enter the store! 6. Find spectacularly glamorous pair of shoes (something like these perhaps or these ). Purchase with nary a thought to price. 7. Drive back home. 8. Take shoes out of box and slowly slip onto feet. 9. Lay around in shoes, look at them adoringly, ponder the meaning of life, drink wine and eat chocolate. 10. Photograph self in said glam shoes. 11. Wrap shoes lovingly in tissue then place them carefully back in box. 12. Drive back to store, promptly return shoes. 13. December TBR challenge completed!

YAY! I avoided a spot on the wall of shame all year with the TBR challenge on Angie's blog!

Why did you get this book? I have no idea *s* It's been in my TBR stack for a while. I probably bought it because of the blurb on the back (since the author was unfamiliar to me) but then wasn't in the mood for that type of book until this month.

Do you like the cover? I don't dislike the cover. Since reading this book I had to go buy the second book in the series right away and found the same book with a different cover which I like better *s* The second book was a trade paperback so maybe I'll be a geek and re-buy this book in trade as well so they match. Yes I know I'm weird.

Did you enjoy the book? OH. MY. GOD. I LOVED this book *s* It's different and the main character is twisted and you love him anyways LOL then you shake your head and wonder at yourself enjoying a character like Dexter.

Was the author new to you and would you read something by this author again? Yes he was new to me and definitely *s* This month I read both books in the series that are released so far. The third one isn't released until August 2007 (sigh) AND it's going to be in hardcover so even if I re-buy this book to match the second one it won't match the third. It's a delima.

Are you keeping it or passing it on? Keeping it! (unless I buy the trade paperback version of it. If I do that I'll have this one to pass on)

At any rate I'd suggest this book to anyone who is looking for a fabulous read. Especially if they like reading crime fiction.

Anyone who grew up listening to songs in the '80s will recognise the band easily. I don't know that anyones actually heard O Come All Ye Faithful sung this way before. It isn't my favourite version but I kinda like it in a weird sort of way (shush Jaynie). I'm trying hard to get back into the holiday spirit and this video made me smile :)

November TBR Challenge

This month I read the book Sword of Rhoswen by Brenda Williamson.

I actually won this book and I'm so glad I did! I never would have picked it myself since it's a historical romance and I tend to avoid those most of the time. If you haven't yet red this book, or others by Ms. Williamson you should do so ASAP! I loved it :) After I read it I went to Samhain Publishing and bought the rest of the books by Brenda. :) I have it in e-book format so even if I wanted to I couldn't pass this one on. It's definitely a keeper!

October TBR Challenge

This months TBR challenge was to read a paranormal or fantasy book.

I chose Dark Celebration by Christine Feehan.

What a disappointment! It isn't that it was a bad book so much as it was so much longer than it should have been (I know this is a shock coming from me, short stories piss me off). The same phrase/scene/etc. was repeated over and over and over again. Hammered into the reader really.

I got this book from the library. It made me angry that the rest of her series was in mass market paperback and this one was hard cover so I refused to buy it. THANK GOD! It's the first time I had to force myself to finish one of her books.

I guess if you're new to this series (the Dark Carpathians) then the story would have been good. (Everything was certainly over explained for anyone who has read any of the other books). It was a collosal disappointment for me though. I'm really glad I didn't buy it. If I had it probably would have been a wall banger and it CERTAINLY would have been given away.

It's Snowing!

It looks pretty now but I KNOW I'm going to hate the shovelling. I'm waiting until after supper tonight to do that though. (If I don't wait I'll just have to do it again anyways)
